ABOUT ME

Ceramics have always been a passion of mine and I started making pots and sculptures 10 years ago.

My background in Luxury Fashion took me to many wonderful and far-flung places, often meeting incredible craftspeople and artists. Throughout my time as a Fashion Buyer I’ve always collected ceramics, but never had the energy to create art myself.

After a career change and a move to St. Leonards-on-Sea, I shifted my attention to making ceramics, the thing I love doing most and it became my main focus.

MY TECHNIQUE

I love the element of chance within my work, and with ceramics you have to accept that the elements play a strong part in how your work turns out: you cannot completely control everything.

My signature style uses torn paper to create jagged-edge shapes with accidental proportions, in coloured clays matt finish clays against the solid black earthenware, white stoneware  or terracotta of the pots. I love how these slip shapes have an energy and interact with each other as well as play with the proportion and shape of the vessels.

MY INSPIRATION

I enjoy the spontaneity when creating work and my inspiration fluctuates widely. I have an overarching affinity for early art from all cultures; bold mark making and organic forms and patterns captivate me most.

A lot of my techniques and colour choices are also influenced by Dazzle camouflage and Gerry Anderson’s imagery of the Thunderbirds and the tracking light of the Mysterons in Captain Scarlet, which both scared and excited me as a child.
