MYSTERONS
A lot of my early memories of Gerry Anderson’s futuristic TV programmes heavily influences my work.
I love the style and imagery of the Thunderbirds with its heavily-camouflaged villa on Tracy Island or the tracking light of the Mysterons in Captain Scarlet, exciting yet scary images for my younger self, peering through the gap in my fingers.
DAZZLE SHIPS
I first came to Dazzle painting through OMD’s album Dazzle Ships. I love that, unlike other forms of camouflage, the intention of Dazzle is not to conceal, but to mislead.
The complex technique of using geometric shapes in contrasting colours, interrupting and intersecting each other, gives me endless inspiration. I love the disruption of form it creates.
A BRAVE NEW WORLD
This new body of work marks an evolution of my previous techniques whilst combining my signature Dazzle painting with more experimental vessel shapes, with colours intersected with the contour lines from maps to create a new type of landscape, on new shapes and forms, all in all a brave new world.
FIREWORKS
Explosions of colour within clear shiny glaze, like celebration fireworks, pepper the surface of dazzle-striped vessels.
Multi-colour combinations splash across the surface making each vessel completely unique. Multi-colour slip decoration ecstasy to make you dance all night.
AHEAD
I have an overarching affinity for early art from all cultures; bold mark making and organic forms and patterns captivate me most.
People with strong personalities and a wicked sense of humour have always inspired me. From famous pop icons to friends, from drag queens to strangers in the street, my figurative work follows a very spontaneous approach combining it all, allowing me a strong sense of play. Graphic plates are certainly not domesticated.
